THE PROCEDURE

Below I will outline the procedure that I use for all circumcisions.

I will explain them in detail when you call to schedule appointment.

To save parents extra jobs in the hectic period after birth, almost all the necessary materials are provided – all you need is nappies, wipes, and two large (250ml) tubs of Vaseline (best for the baby to use only the Vaseline brand).

The whole appointment usually lasts an hour but the actual procedure only takes a few minutes.

First the baby is weighed to make sure that he is healthy and gaining weight. The baby is then given orally, a measured dose of painkiller. An anaesthetic (spray – not injection!) is then applied to numb the area. As a  result of all this the baby usually stays quiet right the way through!

THE PROCEDURE

Below I will outline the procedure that I use for all circumcisions.

I will explain them in detail when you call to schedule appointment.

I go through the sheet with the parents /carers, ensuring that everything is clear and understood, and that the parents/carers feel confident in their knowledge and ability on aftercare for the child.
I apply a small amount of local anaesthetic cream to numb the area.
The circumcision itself takes less than a minute, and I perform it using sterilised tools and instruments.
All the equipment is for single use only, to prevent cross-contamination, and abolishes chances of catching any infections.
I then cover the area with sterile dressing, and put on the baby’s clothing. I stay on to ensure that baby is comfortable.
I change the dressing and guide the parent on how change the gauze and provide them with the required moisturisers and gauze pads.
The healing process starts straight away, taking 10-14 days to fully heal. The parents are given detailed guidance (oral and written) on how to care for the baby post circumcision and I am available on the phone 24 hours – so you’re never on your own!
